Britain’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia completes Haj
The British ambassador to Saudi Arabia has converted to Islam and this week completed the hajj with his Syrian wife.

Saudi Arabian writer Fawziah Albakr posted the photos to Twitter.
The diplomat thanked well-wishers on Twitter after news of his conversion emerged, saying he had chose to join the Islamic faith “after spending 30 years in Muslim societies”. “Praise be to Allah”. In brief: “I converted to Islam after 30 years of living in Muslim societies and before marrying Huda”. He had previously served as Britain’s ambassador to Syria until 2012, when diplomatic relations broke down between the United Kingdom and President Bashar al-Assad’s regime.

The UK Foreign Office refused to comment on the news, saying the ambassador’s religion was a personal matter.
He has also served in positions in Tunisia, India, Yemen and the UAE. It is estimated that 1.8 million Muslim pilgrims in Saudi Arabia completed it this year.

After Mr Collis left Damascus in 2012 he served as an ambassador to Iraq until 2014, before moving to Riyadh in January 2015.
