The shock referendum result has plunged Britain’s two main parties, which have dominated politics for almost a century, into a state of upheaval.

The country is still reeling from the June 23 shock referendum result, which prompted Cameron to resign, sent sterling to a 31-year low, and pounded consumer and business confidence.
“I have received confirmation from the board and the Party, I can now declare that Mrs May has been elected as the new leader of the Conservative Party with immediate effect”.
Mrs Foster said she was looking forward to “early discussions with our new Prime Minister”. In a speech earlier yesterday, she set out her vision, calling for “a country that works for everyone, not just the privileged few”.
We said: ‘If she can introduce a new, more serious, more truthful politics, she will be thanked by millions of Britons who are utterly disenchanted with the political process. “We need strong, coherent Government with an effective Opposition”, he said.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel says Britain “will have to quickly clarify how it wants to shape its relationship to the European Union in the future”.
As she announced her bid, Eagle said: “This vote was a message for millions in our country who felt that no-one had listened to them for a very long time”.
But Sturgeon said she would fight May’s pitch to Conservative colleagues about pressing ahead with plans to leave the EU.
I’m not sure she’s even capable of it. On the contrary, I have made clear that I intend to pursue every possible avenue to secure Scotland’s continued place in Europe and in the world’s biggest single market, and that all options must be on the table to achieve that.
Soon after that May will arrive at the palace to be invited by the Queen to head the government as prime minister.
The Home Secretary’s “rapid ascent to the premiership” follows Andrea Leadsom’s decision to quit the Tory leadership race.
ANDREA Leadsom, one of two candidates vying to become the next British prime minister, has apologised to Theresa May after she was accused of claiming being a mother would make her a better choice for the role.
Jon Trickett, Labour’s election co-ordinator, said it was “crucial” that the public give their assent to May though a vote.
May, having so much support from MPs, and the economy needing certainty in the aftermath of the Brexit vote, it was better, said Leadsom, to have a rapid transition than a protracted leadership race.
Pete Wishart MP, SNP leader of the Commons, doesn’t seen an early general election because of the fear of UKIP among both big United Kingdom parties.

May’s biggest challenge will be to map out the course of Britain’s withdrawal, a process still clouded in uncertainty, and to sort out new terms of trade with the other 27 European Union nations.
