Britain’s new PM May to appoint more cabinet members

Though notably the tone and tenor of her language was Centrist and conciliatory, but while making the first set of Cabinet appointments she has indicated a shift to the Right, with Boris Johnson as Foreign Secretary and veteran Right-wing politicians like David Davis and Liam Fox surprisingly back to the new Government as secretary for handling Brexit and worldwide trade respectively.

The German Chancellor declined to comment on May’s decision to appoint former London Mayor Boris Johnson – who led the Leave campaign – as her new foreign minister.

Britain’s Prime Minister, Theresa May, watched by husband Philip, speaks to the media outside number 10 Downing Street, in central London, Britain. She also supports fewer welfare benefits and is vocal about her pro-life stance.

Mrs May has effectively handed Mr Johnson, Mr Davis and Mr Fox the responsibility for successfully carrying out the withdrawal – known as Brexit – which they repeatedly promised would yield new opportunities.

His appointment will set the tone for talks with fellow European states, many of whom have been keen for Britain to move swiftly to begin formal talks, and have talked tough on the prospects of giving away access to the EU single market.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew says he would like negotiations on Britain’s exit from the European Union to produce a “highly integrated relationship between the United Kingdom and the EU”.

Even so, Mr Johnson’s elevation to such a prestigious post represents a remarkable change of fortunes in a career that has had its share of them. Johnson led the campaign to drop out of the EU.

The new leader has been quickly moving to put her stamp on the office, making one of her first tasks in office to fire George Osborne, the Treasury chief who campaigned for the country to stay in the European Union. Mr Gove argued that Mr Johnson was not up to the job.

Writing on the ConservativeHome website just before being appointed to his new role, Mr Davis said: “We need to take a brisk but measured approach to Brexit”.

Johnson himself said he was “humbled”.

Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel added his voice to those pleading for a speedy start to the Brexit procedure, following three weeks of financial and political turmoil triggered by Britain’s vote to leave Europe. Davis, a veteran lawmaker who has twice run for the Conservative leadership, is one of the staunchest euroskeptics in British politics. During a recent interview, he recalled that colleagues in Europe had nicknamed him the “charming b******”.

However, this will be politically hard as it would likely mean keeping the free movement of people and immigration was seen as a key reason many voted to leave the European Union.

Hammond said Thursday that there will be no emergency budget to deal with the economic fallout from Brexit.

“The reality is that the hard-headed, pragmatic businessmen on the continent will do everything to ensure that trade with Britain continues uninterrupted”, he said.

New Prime Minister Theresa May has given her former job of home secretary to Amber Rudd, Britain’s former energy secretary.

The libertarian Davis – a former special forces reservist who boasts that he has broken his nose five times – has sparred with May for years over the powers of Britain’s spy agencies, which she oversaw as home secretary and he thinks are too intrusive.

Hammond has been appointed Chancellor in Theresa May’s first cabinet appointment. We haven’t seen the end of the Etonians thanks to Boris Johnson, but Justine Greening becomes the first Education Secretary in our history to be educated at a comprehensive school rather than privately.

“It has been the greatest honour of my life to serve our country as prime minister over these last six years, and to serve as leader of my party for nearly 11 years”, he said outside 10 Downing St, accompanied by his wife Samantha and his children – 12 year old Nancy, 10 year old Elwen and 5 year old Florence.
