Britax is recalling 37 models of its vehicle seats due to a potential safety defect that could prevent the harnesses from locking.

The recall affects seats made between August 1, 2014 and July 29, 2015.
The voluntary recall was announced after certain auto seats had a defect in the harness adjuster button, which could post a safety hazard. This will enable the shoulder harnesses to loosen from a child’s movements while secured in the seat. The button could remain in the “release” position after the harness is tightened.
According to Britax, only seats with the following model numbers are affected: E9LT95Q, E9LT95Z, E9LT95N, E1A025Q, E9LT86F, E1A135Q, E9LT86G, E9LT85Q, E9LT86A, E9LT86H, E9LT85S, E1A015Q, E1A016A, E1A016H, E1A166F, E9LT87J, E1A116L, E9LT76P, E9LT71Q, E9LT76N, E9LT76B, E9LT75R, E9LT76L, E1A006B and E1A005R.
The kit includes one non-toxic food-grade lubricant, a label indicating the correction has been completed, and an instruction sheet for applying the lubricant to the harness adjuster button correctly.

Child seat safety has been in the spotlight lately after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) fined Graco Children’s Products Inc. for $10 million after the company failed to recall over 4 million child seats in a timely fashion.
