British Cycling programmes director: No issues between Cavendish and Wiggins
In women’s team pursuit, USA, Great Britain, Canada and Australia will probably battle it out to reach the gold medal race.

Sir Dave Brailsford, the mastermind behind the successes of Beijing 2008 and London 2012, described an undulating progression created to peak every four years.
However, British Cycling’s technical director resigned in April…
Without Sutton’s intuitive knowledge it will be hard.
The pair were world champions in the Madison, only to finish ninth in the Beijing Olympics with Wiggins tired by his gold medal-winning exploits in the individual and team pursuits.
With the finishing line approaching, Wiggins got back on and the Brits crossed the line with an 0.7 margin of victory to give Sir Bradley his eighth Olympic medal, six of which are gold.
RCUK prediction: A British gold medal in the team pursuit looked an absolute certainty until Australia bettered them in St.Quentin in 2015 and the wheels fell off at the 2016 worlds.
Then it was suggested the peloton conspired against Britain on the opening day of London 2012 in the road race. Germany, France, Australia and New Zealand will be gunning for glory too. Among others, two-time omnium world champion Fernando Gaviria of Colombia stands in Cavendish’s path.
“So if I’m sat in front of you with a silver medal after these Games, you can expect me to be pretty p****d off”.
Speaking at the Newport holding camp, prior to travelling to Rio, 36-year-old Wiggins was optimistic.
“I’ve set myself up so if I didn’t win, I’ve failed”. It’s going to be even faster. Something will have to go seriously wrong, I believe, for us to lose.
Wiggins was asked to appraise the five members of the endurance squad, including Cavendish.
Cavendish on Tuesday expressed frustration at being overlooked for a team pursuit spot in Rio, appearing to accuse “hero” Wiggins of freezing him out. He continued: “If I’m honest, that’s the reason I left the Tour early, because of the team pursuit”.
Jack has five medals – four gold and one silver.
The main challengers will be long-time velodrome nemesis Australia, a resurgent French sprinting programme and USA’s world champion women’s team pursuiters.
Britain won gold at London 2012 when the event made its Olympic debut, before it was expanded to 4km with four riders. They duly did as the United States took gold.
And the four-rider, four-kilometres team pursuit offers a surer prospect of a podium place.

It is by no means the near-certain gold it once was and Britain could face a trying campaign in the velodrome, with the gold medals expected to be shared more evenly than in the last two Games.
