A British man could face about two years in a US prison before being deported for trying to grab a police officer’s gun to shoot Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump at a June campaign rally in Las Vegas.

‘I tried to take a gun from a policeman to shoot someone and I’m pleading guilty, ‘ he told a judge at US District Court in Nevada.
Sandford, who had by then overstayed his tourist visa by about 10 months, was immediately arrested and removed from the rally.
Michael Sandford of Dorking, Surrey, appeared in court on Tuesday charged with trying to grab a policeman’s gun to attack the Republican presidential candidate in June.
His mother Lynne Sandford persuaded her son to sign the agreement after she flew to the USA with a lawyer last week.
Sanford told a federal agent that he drove from California to Las Vegas with intentions to kill Trump and that he practiced at a gun range with a 9mm pistol the day before the attempt.
She told ITV he had agreed to plead guilty to being an illegal alien in possession of a firearm and disrupting government business.
Michael Steven Sandford, 20, is facing federal charges of being an illegal alien in possession of a firearm and disrupting an official function, which could get him about two years in US prison and deported, according to CBS News. His sentencing is set for December 13.
Assistant Federal Public Defender Brenda Weksler also was involved in the meetings in Las Vegas. The 42-year-old told the Press Association: “I gathered it was a formality, because he did indeed sign the plea agreement whilst I was out there”.
It wasn’t clear if Trump recognized a threat before officers escorted Sandford out of the auditorium.
According to Sandford’s family attorney, a psychiatrist enlisted to offer a diagnosis said the defendant was delusional at the time.
At the event he asked a police officer if he could get an autograph of Trump and then reached both of his hands for the officer’s weapon, CBS reports.
Sandford told the agent it was the first time he had ever fired a gun. “The result was that no one was injured”.
His mother, Lynne Sandford, has said her son suffers from autism and depression and that he would not have understood the consequences of his actions.
When Sandford appeared in court on Tuesday a judge said he was satisfied that he was fit to enter the plea. “He is desperate to return to the United Kingdom to be near his family as he has no ties with the U.S.”. If you would like to discuss another topic, look for a relevant article.
