British national charged in Kenya with trafficking cocaine

The drugs were seized by United States drug enforcement administration officials and police from a container delivered by ship from Brazil, a senior Kenyan police official said. His family estate is called “Cawdor Castle”, which is near Inverness, and comes complete with a golf course and a whole assortment of other shit.

Jack Marrian denied the charges stemming from the $3 million (2.7 million euro) seizure of drugs found hidden in containers of sugar last Friday.

A hearing for bail, already opposed by the prosecution who said he was a flight risk, is due on Monday.

The class A narcotics, with a street value of about £4.5 million, were allegedly shipped in containers labelled as carrying sugar destined for Uganda.

And his father is an artist who has exhibited paintings in the African country.

He declined to comment when approached by IBTimes UK, but confirmed his son had been arrested. “The fact it is contaminated with cocaine has nothing to do with him”, he said.

His mother, Lady Campbell, 58, is the daughter of the late Hugh John Vaughan Campbell, the sixth Earl Cawdor, an artist and landowner.

It is understood that Marrian then studied at the elite Marlborough college, where the Duchess of Cambridge and Princess Eugenie were students, before going on to study economics at the University of Bristol.

A Kenyan, Roy Francis Mwanthi, was charged separately with trafficking the cocaine.

Marrian, 30, had posted a one-word message of “Released” on his Facebook page on Monday, with friends responding with relief.

“We can confirm that Mshale’s managing director, Jack Marrian is assisting the Kenyan authorities’ to provide them with whatever information they require”. Mshale operates stringent procedures to protect the integrity of its supply chain.

Marrian’s aunt, Elizabeth Campbell, told the Guardian: “He’s innocent”. He must have had a very rough time of it so far, and I think it’s important that we all, in whichever way we can, show our support for this banged up Brit overseas.
