Thai authorities are searching for a man caught on security cameras leaving behind a rucksack at the popular attraction, which is in an area well-used by foreign visitors.

“The loss of life and injury in Bangkok is horrific and I condemn this callous act of violence against completely innocent and unsuspecting members of the public” he said.

The Foreign Office said it could not confirm whether Ms Chan was the British national whose death had earlier been confirmed by Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond. Hong Kong has consequently issued a “red alert” travel advisory warning against non-essential travel to the Thai capital – also a signal for tour suspension reference for the Hong Kong-incorporated travel agencies that have branches in Macau.
