Britney Spears explains why she missed People’s Choice Awards

Wednesday night brought us the People’s Choice Awards, and while we celebrated some great actors, shows, and movies, the highlight of the night was something we never expected.

Mimicking Steve Harvey’s now-infamous Miss Universe slip-up, Jane Lynch presented a surprising award to Miss Colombia after “mistakenly” announcing Tom Lennon as the award’s recipient.

During the People’s Choice Awards on Wednesday night, DeGeneres, who has won the “Favourite Daytime TV Host” for the 10th time, was honoured as the ‘Favourite Humanitarian.’ Actress Melissa McCarthy took the stage and introduced DeGeneres.

Jack Black and Kate Hudson present the award for favourite comedic movie actress at the People’s Choice Awards. But I have to say, it feels a little odd to accept an award for being nice and generous and kind, which is what we’re all supposed to do as humans.

Accepting the award, she shared: “I started out as a comedian, and I wanted to make people laugh”. Johnny Depp bagged the favourite dramatic actor trophy, while young star Dakota Johnson, won the favourite dramatic movie actress honour. Sharon Osbourne responded accordingly, with a literal kick to the unwelcome stage guest. But proving she really did deserve recognition for her dedicated online presence, Britney took straight to Twitter to explain. Last month, the “Piece of Me” singer flaunted her abs and called out her haters in a selfie posted to the social media site.

She handed the mic back to Gilbert, who picked up where she left off.

When the entire country votes for its favorite movies, music and television shows, well…the most popular stuff wins, so you can pretty much look at the ratings, the charts, or the box office numbers and figure out who’s going to win.
