Brits upset Chinese to win synchro 3-meter Olympic gold

Teams from all over the world will battle the United States in the men’s synchronized 3 meter springboard diving finals at the 2016 Rio Olympics on August 10 at 3pm EST.

But it turns out that was plenty of time to get acquainted. Boudia and Johnson turned in a strong performance Monday, securing a silver medal in the men’s synchronized 10m platform event.

The British team of Jack Laugher and Chris Mears won gold, outscoring the Americans by 4.11 points, while the Chinese team of Qin Kai and Cao Yuan won bronze with a total score of 443.70.

There are no preliminary or semifinal rounds in synchronized diving events, which means they went right to the finals. Hixon and Dorman delivered the highest-scoring dive of the day on their sixth and final attempt – with the judges giving them 98.04 points toward their total score of 450.21.

Dorman and Hixon have only been working together for a few months, and while both have competed around the world, neither had finished in the top 15 in their trials appearance four years ago. “Click on to see which divers took home medals”.
