After close to a decade focusing on the darker side of humanity, the Breaking Bad star will get back in touch with his sense of humor when he stars alongside James Franco in Why Him?

John Hamburg (Along Came Polly) is attached to direct, with a script he’ll co-write with Ian Helfer (The Oranges). Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps and Ben Stiller’s Red Hour are producing.

No word yet on when cameras might roll but Franco and Cranston are already good buds, working together on the former’s forthcoming “In Dubious Battle“.

Why Him? follows a Midwestern dad and his family as they travel to see their daughter at college over the holidays. Dan Levine, 21 Laps president, is overseeing the project along with Fox’s Jeremy Kramer. In between his work schedules, he’ll squeeze in promotional rounds for Trumbo, set to premiere at TIFF in a matter of weeks, and not long after he finishes shooting his new roles will he return back to the press junkets for Kung Fu Panda 3, in theaters on January 29, 2016.
