Brock Osweiler throws interception in first series with the Texans

Perhaps Osweiler can give Hopkins some consistency at the position, although that didn’t have much of an impact on his head-turning numbers a year ago. On the road, against a talent-loaded defense, the Bears simply couldn’t generate enough offensive rhythm to fuel an upset bid. “I think what … we might have won it”, he said.

The Bears were a 6.5 point underdog to the Texans.

The huge off-season investment the Houston Texans made in Brock Osweiler paid immediate dividends in the season opener. It is still early, but I am excited to see what Ervin brings. The Texans came out with a W while everyone else it the division lost. The makings of an upset right? The Texans were coy during the week regarding how they would utilize Watt, and after the opening kickoff, Watt played with vigor even though his production wasn’t up to his Defensive Player of the Year standards.

Just asking: When does all the fighting the Bears did in training camp instead of practicing football start helping this team? “The thing I love about Will in that situation is he came back in the second half and made a couple big plays for us”. Cutler didn’t target White until the final drive of the game. That forced a punt with 50 seconds to go in the half and set up a go-ahead TD. You don’t. It’s important to realize that talent-wise this team is still one year, possibly two years away from contending. Imagine how excited he’ll be if the Bears make the playoffs! He is a ball hawk and I expect that to be a regular occurrence. However, Cutler took ownership as a leader and captain should. The Bears offense had looked really bad in the preseason and their struggles continued against a Texans team that shut the Bears offense down after some early scoring. For a split-second there, we thought Hoyer would be coming in off the bench.

Want a positive from this game? Fans have the hope and excitement that is surrounding this team, and they are anticipating a bit of revenge to the mix for that game. They did register eight quarterback hits and two sacks in the game, but Floyd was routinely swallowed up by blockers and players like Jonathan Bullard had difficulty making adjustments in his first career National Football League game.

If he does give that arm-wave in White’s direction, effectively letting the almost 72,000 fans in NRG Stadium and beyond know that the young player in his first game has screwed up, he’s showing up a teammate. “I’m going to carry this through the season”. 14 hits is a ridiculous amount. But with a chance to build on that momentum immediately after the break, the Bears malfunctioned.

-What happened to Alshon Jeffery in the second half? Make no mistake: this was a very stiff test for the Bears’ O-line in their first game. But the Texans running back recovered the loose ball. Jeremy Langford was underwhelming, Ka’Deem Carey only got 2 carries and Jordan Howard didn’t even see the field. Here you go. No, seriously.

Moving on to the defense… Houston drafted WRs Will Fuller and Braxton Miller, though it is uncertain how quickly they will factor in.

Eddie Goldman was a non-factor in this game, aside from a tackle-for-loss he shared with Jonathan Bullard.

The score showed off his best skill which is his speed.

The defense also could have to fill in a major hole the rest of the season. If Fox is going to get all huffy about whether Adam Gase took the offense to Miami, then Dowell Loggains had better show that Fox’s game-shortening offense is still around. Rather than turn right and get out of bounds, however, Williams turned left, got tackled in the field of play, and time expired. We don’t want to make excuses at all. It’s not the end of the world.
