It doesn’t matter that Turner was a student at Stanford or that he was a good swimmer.
Turner registered under his family’s address in Sugarcreek Township, where about a dozen people had protested Friday as police watched. That same day, 20 University of ME students protested Turner’s release on the steps of Fogler Library. That is certainly how Brock Turner saw it.
“I blacked out and just remember very short flashing images…”
On Jan. 18, 2015, ex-Stanford University student Brock Turner was arrested for sexually assaulting an unconscious woman behind a dumpster.
The photo series entitled “It Happens” depicts the raw pain and disturbing realities of sexual assault with the aim of highlighting how common it is in a society which is often quick to dismiss sexual crimes and its perpetrators. Smith said probation is “not a fair sentence for anyone convicted of a sexual assault felony”. This meant that there was no actual rape according to the law, and hence the judge was justified of his lenient sentencing even though the prosecutors had sought a six year sentence.
Turner will serve three years probation while living under his parents’ roof.
Shortly after the events played out, Stanford University created a website called “Female Bodies and Alcohol”. There is an important debate about whether recalling Persky is an ethical move considering the judicial branch is meant to be independent from political pressure. Like many across the country, Mazurekevich was angry turner only got six months. “They [victims] are afraid that they are not going to be believed”.
And when police reported the assault, you told them that she “liked it”. After Brock Turner was released early from jail, I chose to finish the series by photographing the dumpster scene to show viewers that this indeed has happened and we’re doing little to resolve this issue.
The protest started at 10 a.m. and lasted for an hour. One of them was Dale Winslow, a senior at UMaine. “I think he will not be a danger to others”. They show that “sexual assault can happen to anyone, anywhere, anytime, without warning and without reason”, says Current Solutions, an advocacy group that helped Mazurkevich publish the series.
Last week, the ME chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon (Sig-Ep) held its annual campout on the mall.
“We have have information for what kind of auto, part of that has to do with, if somebody thinks a sex offender is stalking them or if there was a child abduction”, Fischer said.
Ultimately, Turner was charged with sexual assault. “A lot of the times, it gets thrown at just fraternity life or athletes”.
Student organizations displayed 5 mattresses to represent the one in five females sexually assault on college campuses for the It’s On Us campaign.

Every 2 minutes a person is sexually assaulted in the US, according to RAINN. Jerry Brown that would land convicted sex offenders of an unconscious woman a mandated and unalterable prison sentence, according to a CNN article. “It’s a awful crime”. But she didn’t let it stop her from getting her message across. We can promote better sex education and create a million videos on the meaning of consent, but the real change is going to occur with ourselves.
