Persky is not allowed to comment on the Turner case, as the Mercury News pointed out, because the case will be active until Turner serves three years on probation, starting with his Friday jail release.

In court, Turner’s victim read a powerful statement in court where she questioned the lenient punishment and society’s view on sexual assault.
In a statement the sexual assault survivor had made, which went viral on social media, she spoke of the pain and distress caused by the incident and the trial leading to Turner’s sentencing. The victim said it wasn’t fair that Turner’s loss of his athletic career was taken into consideration when sentencing him. “I think he will not be a danger to others”.
Convicted sex offender Brock Turner is now a free man after being released from Santa Clara County Jail Friday morning. “There’s a lot of reasons to be in protective custody, basically they’re at risk while they’re here”, Smith said.
One week after Turner’s sentence was announced, the school was found to have five federal complaints about its handling of sexual violence – the most cases under review of any school on the list published by the Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights.
The bill, which includes mandatory sentences for similar offences, passed the California assembly by 66-0.
Additionally, the judge said at the time, he considered the “severe impact” a state prison sentence would have on an offender of Turner’s age, based on input from family and friends about how the conviction had already affected him.
She detailed the assault outside a fraternity house in January 2015 in graphic terms. Turner tried to flee, but the students tackled and pinned him down until police arrived. “That’s why I’m here”.
Judge Aaron Persky is facing a recall effort, with organizers saying they will begin collecting signatures in April to try to qualify the issue for the November 2017 ballot. It was held across the street from the San Jose jail.
In his defense, Persky created his own anti-recall website, RetainJudgePersky.com, where he is soliciting donations to fight his recall. They want the judge held accountable for showing bias in this case of a privileged athlete who they believe was given special treatment to the detriment of his victim.
Per the Associated Press (via ESPN.com), Turner’s early release was the result of good behavior.
Brock Turner emerged pre-dawn Friday from a California jail to a throng of journalists and a spectator who shouted, “Loser!” If he waits longer than 72 hours, he’s required to meet with his probation officer here, since he’ll be on probation for the next three years.

Mr Fischer said his department will send postcards to Turner’s neighbours informing them that a convicted sex offender is moving in nearby. Turner has to check in with the sheriff every three months and is subject to random searches of his home.
