The Dallas Cowboys are not sure when they will get back Pro Bowl quarterback Tony Romo after he suffered a compression fracture to his back. The injury will not require surgery.

It looks as if the Giants will usher in the Dak Prescott era with the Cowboys, as yet another injury to Tony Romo has Prescott, an unheralded rookie from Mississippi State, very much in line to start the September 11 regular-season opener at AT&T Stadium.

Enter dynamic rookie QB Dak Prescott who’s been killing it in the preseason so far and he is ever so confident about his ability to lead the Cowboys while Romo is out. The Cowboys didn’t provide a timetable for their starter to return; they’ve only specified the injury isn’t expected to end Romo’s season. “We’ve heard a wide range of possibilities in terms of when he would be able to play”.

As for Romo’s career, we’ll know more once there’s information about when he’s actually going to be back, which will help drive the speculation.

“He just going to start getting into rehab and part of his rehab is he’s going to be wearing a back brace for now”, Garrett said Sunday morning, per David Moore of SportsDay.

“It’s not related to the other back issues that he’s had”, Garrett said.

Romo had an MRI Friday, and the Cowboys learned the results later that night.

“Still trying to take it in a little bit”, Frederick said.

Prescott improved across the board as a passer in his second season starting at Mississippi State, with a better completion percentage (66.2; 61.6 in 2014), more yards (3,793; 3,449 in 2014), more touchdowns (29; 27 in 2014) and fewer interceptions (5: 11 in 2014). He also has two rushing TDs.

Cliff Avril knocks Dallas quarterback Tony Romo out of the game with this sack on the third play of the game Thursday.
