Broncos boost offer to Von Miller

Here’s the easy way to look at this: An exclusive tag means any other National Football League team that wants to sign Miller away from the Broncos must give Denver two 1st round draft picks in return.

“No, I’m not gonna play on the franchise tag”.

The Denver Broncos’ star linebacker says he’s holding out to make a statement against the NFL’s franchise tag, which “doesn’t make sense”. I think he truly, this whole time just talking to him, he hates the franchise tag.

Earlier this week, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter that Broncos general manager John Elway had personally called Miller over the Fourth of July weekend to express a desire to work out a long-term deal, after nearly a full month without dialogue between the sides. He said that it really devalues a players and doesn’t allow them to realize their true worth on the field. “It’s bigger than that for me”.

Even though a framework of $114.5 million is already in place, Miller and the Broncos are reportedly stuck on the total amount of guaranteed monday, and rightly so. The Broncos’ first offer guaranteed him $38.5 million.

On top of the NFL Players Association threatening to pursue collusion charges against the Broncos if a long-term deal wasn’t reached with Thomas, Thomas also said he would skip training camp and the preseason if no long-term deal was reached. “It’s about giving back to the community, to Denver, because they have been good to me”.

From a business standpoint, it would be foolish to play and risk injury to his body on a one year contract.

The interview finally got around to Miller’s contract situation and they asked if he has talked to Von or if he just stays out of it.

Miller has vowed he will not play on the tag and his threat is believable because of a collective bargaining agreement provision that could increase his bargaining leverage by sitting out the entire season rather than play on the $14.26 million salary.

When it comes to salary cap space, the Falcons could easily create enough room to take on Miller and his new contract for the 2016 season.

Miller, 27, made 35 tackles and 11 sacks in his fifth National Football League season, helping lead the Broncos to a championship and earning the Super Bowl 50 MVP award.

“So it’s hard to get me to do things for money”, he added.

Sanders said he didn’t go to camps like that when he was growing up, so he also wanted to make sure that an opportunity that could be a child’s first exposure to a professional athlete was a positive experience.

Miller’s value is undeniable, but the Broncos have a phenomenal secondary-cornerbacks Chris Harris Jr., Aqib Talib and Bradley Roby and safeties T.J. Ward and Darian Stewart-that could hold its own in the event he holds out.
