Broncos’ Brandon Marshall, Darian Stewart fined for Cam Newton hits

In winning the NFL’s Most Valuable Player award previous year, Newton passed for 3,837 yards with 35 touchdown passes and 10 interceptions, and rushed for 636 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground. “I’m not trying to be a lawyer or trying to lobby for this person or that person”.

“I can’t mourn or dwell on things that happened”, Newton says, “from the statistics of me being hit to the type of hits that I’m taking”.

The latest two fines, coupled with cornerback Bradley Roby’s ,309 fine for a hit against the Los Angeles Rams in the preseason, brings the Broncos’ total money lost in fines to $66,849. I gain nothing. talking about the past.

Broncos coach Gary Kubiak however has defended his players, denying suggestions that Denver had played “dirty”.

SAN DIEGO – Rookie Joey Bosa missed Wednesday’s padded practice, increasing the likelihood that he’ll miss the San Diego Chargers’ home opener against Jacksonville on Sunday. If he came out firing, his critics – and there are many – would likely label him a whiner or crybaby.

After the discourse on player safety the past week, it’s hard to argue that there won’t be increased pressure on officials to get player safety calls right on Sunday.

“I don’t think there is a game that goes by that any National Football League player doesn’t feel sore”, Newton said.

Newton ran 11 times against Denver. The main issue here isn’t the big hits on Newton, it is that his safety was compromised by the Panther’s medical and coaching staff and he wasn’t pulled from the game following multiple helmet to helmet hits. I’m not going to rehash my beef with the lack of the officiating crew’s responsibility being questioned, but needless to say I find it deplorable that they weren’t punished for their part in this fiasco.

Let me just add one other thought before we get to the links: People just don’t understand what is happening here in Denver. With Bradford probably the highest paid backup in the league, Zimmer might be feeling pressure to play, however with next week’s opponents the Green Bay Packers suggesting they are prepping for Sam Bradford, do they know something that both we and even Mike Zimmer doesn’t?

From his viewpoint, the referees and officials did everything they were supposed to throughout the game as it pertained to checking for a concussion. “There is no doubt that everything will work out in itself”.

“I took a couple hits to the head but I don’t think I showed any signs of being concussed”, Newton said, per Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk.

“It was no wooziness. That comes with football, it being a contact sport”.
