Broncos’ Brandon Marshall loses endorsement deal over national anthem protest

Pregame protestation of the national anthem, “is the right platform”, Marshall asserted in a postgame interview at Mile High Stadium, where the Broncos defeated the Carolina Panthers 21-20.

The San Francisco 49ers quarterback has been the center of controversy during the NFL preseason when he made a decision to sit during the national anthem in protest of police abuses against the African-American community. “AAFCU is a membership-based organization who has proudly served the military community for over 60 years”.

“I’m against social injustice”, Marshall said. “We wish Brandon well on his future endeavors”.

Colin Kaepernick’s protest of the national anthem has inspired many athletes to follow suit, including three black college volleyball players at West Virginia Tech University.

This is our first show in a few weeks, so MT and I chose to make it sort of a double-episode, and we got into a discussion of Colin Kaepernick’s national anthem protest and how it might affect and spread to the Warriors players.

The Denver Broncos issued a statement in regard to their linebacker’s protest: “While we encourage members of our organization to stand during the National Anthem, we understand and respect it being a personal decision”.

“I prayed long and hard about it and I felt it was the right thing to do”, Marshall told Sports Illustrated’s MMQB after the game.

Marshall said some of his detractors suggest he should follow the example set by Pat Tillman, who cut short his National Football League career to go to war.

“I’m not against the military, I’m not against America”, he said. I know a lot of people who are Muslim and they are phenomenal people. “This is our only platform to be heard”. Some people are bashing him on the Internet, but I’m not bashing him at all. “But we have voices as well”, Marshall asserted.

Seattle’s receiver Doug Baldwin said this week he is considering sitting during the anthem ahead of Sunday’s home game while team mate Bobby Wagner said the Seahawks have been talking about a group action.
