Broncos Brandon Marshall: Taking A Knee…to the Financial Groin

The Seattle Seahawks will take a cue from San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick at the team’s season opener against the Miami dolphins today, when players are expected to engage in a “demonstration of unity” during the playing of the national anthem.

“I’m not against the military”, Marshall said following the game.

The use of force by police against African-Americans in cities such as Baltimore, New York, and Ferguson, Missouri, has sparked periodic and sometimes destructive protests in the past two years and prompted the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement. I had a lot of positive text messages, but as far as social media, I had a lot of negative, racist comments.

The latest development: Air Academy Federal Credit Union has dropped their endorsement deal with the 26-year-old defender.

Glenn Strebe, president and CEO of Air Academy Federal Credit Union, announced in a Facebook post on Friday that the company is dropping Marshall as their spokesperson after a five-month partnership. The league and teams alike have expressed that though they encourage their players to stand for the national anthem, it is not mandatory.

After the matchup, Marshall said he finalized his decision after talking to his family regarding the protest. Marshall plans to donate to veterans’ causes, he said.

Seattle Seahawks cornerback Jeremy Lane sat in a show of solidarity.

Foster continued: “Would I not stand up for the pledge [of allegiance]? Me? No”. And they have a right to burn the jerseys, but this is a conversation that is about much more than just symbolism. “We are actually educated individuals that went to college”, Marshall said.

What are your thoughts on Brandon Marshall standing with Colin Kaepernick by not standing for the National Anthem during the NFL opener on Thursday night. This is our only platform to really be heard. “So I definitely want to stand by him”, Marshall said. Some people are bashing him on the Internet, but I’m not bashing him at all.

NFLPA spokesman George Atallah said that players can’t violate the dress code-for example, by writing on their helmets-and they can’t interrupt the game.
