According to reports, the Denver Broncos offered linebacker Von Miller a new deal that would pay him $114.5M over the next six years.

Schefter later tweeted the likelihood of the two sides coming to an agreement prior to the July 15 deadline seemed slim, but not impossible.

The Broncos won their third National Football League championship with a 24-10 win over Carolina in the Super Bowl in February.

On Monday, Miller said at a press conference during the team’s visit to the White House that “real progress” had been made in negotiations. Justin Houston of the Kansas City Chiefs signed a six-year $101 million contract with $52.5 million guaranteed. He has played five seasons with the Broncos, making the Pro Bowl four times.

“The only thing I’m concerned about right now is his health”, Kubiak said. The Broncos could theoretically retain Miller under the franchise tag for the next two years for roughly $32 million, though both sides have spoken publicly about their intent to sign a long-term deal.

Broncos coach Gary Kubiak had said following Tuesday’s minicamp practice he looked forward to sitting down face-to-face with Talib and that the Broncos’ medical staff needed a chance to examine Talib before a timetable for his recovery could be set. “I told him ‘Thank you for what you’ve done for my family, ‘ for giving my mother clemency”, Thomas said.

Under the terms of the franchise tag, the two sides must work out an extension by July 15, otherwise a new deal can not be signed until after the season.

As of writing, the Broncos have the highest cap space next offseason with over $65 million to spend, money that they are going to try to throw at Miller to lock him into a long-term deal. The Broncos then would be unable to apply the “exclusive” franchise tag next offseason.
