Broncos’ Darian Stewart fined for Cam Newton hit
According to Adam Caplan of ESPN, Broncos safety Darian Stewart has been fined ,231 for his helmet-to-helmet hit on Panthers quarterback Cam Newton.

Clearly, the Broncos’ defensive strategy was to hit Newton high and it helped push Denver to a 21-20 victory in the end.
Marshall’s hit in the third quarter was not called a penalty, but he was fined $24,309 for impermissible use of a helmet, ESPN reported.
Marshall’s blast on Newton appeared malicious, even if he said it wasn’t intentional.
“Worry about what?” Newton said, via Pro Football Talk, when asked about his health.
“The one call that I’m aware of that they missed when he was moving back to the offensive line, back to the line of scrimmage, and he pulled back up and went to (being) a passer”, Goodell said, referring to Marshall’s hit. “I worry about winning”.
The lack of penalties in the game resulted in widespread criticism for the NFL’s failure to protect Newton, the league’s reigning MVP, despite its continued insistence player safety is No 1 on the league’s agenda. “So if he’s in running posture, ball tucked, advancing it as a runner, he’s treated like a runner and he doesn’t get special protection. Then he goes to shoot a layup and gets hacked and hammered and they don’t call it”.
National Football League commissioner Roger Goodell admitted that a couple of the hits in the season’s opening game on Thursday night had “not been legal” and action has now been taken against two of the guilty parties.

Newton returned to practice on Wednesday, Carolina’s first since losing the Super Bowl rematch to the Broncos when Graham Gano’s 50-yard field goal sailed wide left in the game’s final seconds.
