Broncos defense, not Peyton Manning, leads the way to 3-0 start

The Lions are 0-3 with a trip to Seattle next, but before they can even think of salvaging their season, they have to salvage their quarterback.

Overall, it left some players searching for why things aren’t coming together as they thought they would.

Peyton Manning did not take one snap under center in the first quarter.

In the end, none of it mattered. Cornelius Lucas got the start at right tackle and was replaced by the starter last season LaAdrain Waddle.

“I mean, I’m surprised, yeah, because of the players and how great we are, how good we look every day”, he said.

O will have to say: It’s going to be 3-0 for the Broncos.

One could assume the spread was based on the news that Kam Chancellor ended his holdout for Seattle, but a simpler explanation could be Las Vegas took one look at quarterback Jimmy Clausen and assumed the Bears are toast. He was stuffed well before the goal line, and Denver held onto its lead. The Lions would make some baffling errors and leave points that could have swung the game.Stafford was 31 of 45 for 282 yards with a 16-yard TD pass to Ameer Abdullah in the third quarter, two interceptions and a fumble on a play in which he had at least once chance to throw the ball away. “I had turnovers that hurt us”. He found tight end Owen Daniels for an 11-yard touchdown reception with 2:28 left in the fourth quarter to give his side a 12-point lead.

Quarterback Matthew Stafford practiced all week after injuring his elbow and ribs last week in Minnesota but he was still listed on the injury reports all week and was designated with the “probable” tag. Another great play, the guy tipped it to himself about four times. “Wish I could have thrown it 6 inches higher; maybe we have a catch for a first down”.

It’s another loss that stings. Denver had its best season in years in 2014 thanks to the arrival of new head coach Jim Caldwell, but so far 2015 has been a step backwards. The Lions had dreams of another double-digit win season and another trip to the playoffs.

The Lions finished with nine penalties, totaling 75 yards, which was nearly triple the amount they gained on the ground.

By the way, Manning had two such completions against the Lions. Colin Kaepernick has thrown four interceptions, two of which have been returned for touchdowns. “I know he likes to see the field from back there”. “I’ll go with that”.

An NFL spokesperson said via email today that the call on the field – and confirmed by replay officials upstairs – was the correct call, though the play would have been ruled an incomplete pass had the league not changed the “tuck rule” two years ago. If we line them up and make them earn it, we feel good with the odds on that, but we’ve got to cut that out. But coach Wayne Fontes had star running back Barry Sanders. “You’re right.'” The Lions, likewise, aren’t running the ball very well.

Detroit Lions running back Joique Bell (35) jumps over the defense of Denver Broncos inside linebacker Brandon Marshall (54) and another Bronco for a 1-yard touchdown during the first half of an NFL football game, Sunday, September 27, 2015, in Detroit.

Another negative. The defense also gave up big plays. Thomas outjumped Slay for the underthrown pass and cruised into the end zone to give Denver a 14-6 halftime lead. That ruling was overturned by replay, giving Detroit the ball at the Denver 29.
