Broncos hire former Bengals DB coach Vance Joseph as head coach
The 49ers are scheduled to interview Dolphins defensive coordinator Vance Joseph for their coaching position Thursday, if he isn’t hired by the Denver Broncos first.

Vance Joseph has agreed to become the new head coach of the Denver Broncos. The secondary also took a step back after being a formidable unit under Joseph’s watch. He returned to Colorado for two years, 2002-03, and coached one year at Bowling Green before entering the National Football League ranks.
Joseph, the former Miami Dolphins coordinator, comes to Denver with a pretty simple resume: defense.
Elway said throughout he was looking for a “young” and “bright” coach for the job. Bill Musgrave, a former Broncos backup quarterback who was a prep star in Grand Junction, is a free agent after the Raiders let him go this week. He’s worked under Marvin Lewis and Wade Phillips.
Paul Klee, Woody Paige and David Ramsey will be writing about the Broncos coaching hire. Phillips was the defensive coordinator with the Texans in 2012 and 2013 when Joseph was the defensive backs coach. Kubiak won more games in his first two seasons than any coach in Broncos history.
“He brings a leadership quality that you really love about him”, said Miami head coach Adam Gase.
After a standout career at Shaw, Joseph attended the University of Colorado and helped the Buffaloes win an NCAA championship. That has now happened, as the Broncos just recently confirmed that Joseph is their new head coach. He played for the Colts in 1996, spent three years away from the game, then entered coaching again in 1999. While becoming one of several teams forced to part ways with their head coach this offseason, the heralded franchise has found their next leader along the sideline.

The Dolphins finished 26th in yards allowed (382.6 ypg), 15th in passing defense (242.2 ypg) and 30th in rushing defense (140.4 ypg). Also, the Dolphins third-down percentage on defense improved from 43.7 in 2015 to 36.2 this season, which was the fourth best in the NFL.
