Broncos LB Brandon Marshall Kneels During National AnthemKaepernick’s college teammate, Brandon Marshall

Marshall spoke out Tuesday on WFAN, saying he disagreed with host Boomer Esiason, who had criticized Kaepernick. “I’m against social injustice”, ESPN reports. Marshall kneeled during the anthem before tonight’s season opener against the Panthers.

Marshall, who is black, played with Colin Kaepernick at the University of Nevada and has, according to several media organizations, voiced his support for his former teammate in his ongoing protest.

Kaepernick is protesting by choosing not to stand for the anthem.

“When I look at the American flag, I see a bunch of fights”. Some people are bashing him on the Internet, but I’m not bashing him at all. We can talk all we want, but actions speak louder than words, so when [Kaepernick] took a knee, or sat down, he got people thinking. The San Francisco quarterback’s stance came to light when he wouldn’t stand before preseason games recently, a decision that has drawn strong reactions – positive and negative – throughout the sports world. “Then he was able to say everything he felt, everything he meant”.

While the Broncos issued a somewhat ecumenical statement, head coach Gary Kubiak, while noting an acceptance of different strokes for different folks, said during training camp: “I want our guys to stand for the national anthem”.

“I think President Obama said it best, and I think a lot of guys said it: That’s his constitutional right”. I let them handle themselves.
