Broncos list Manning as starter vs. Bengals
Denver Broncos quarterback Brock Osweiler (17) walks off the field during the second half of an NFL football game against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Pittsburgh, Sunday, Dec. 20, 2015.

The Steelers’ Ben Roethlisberger passed for 380 yards and three touchdowns against the NFL’s top defense.
Manning returned to practice ahead of the Broncos’ game with the Steelers, and he traveled with the team to Pittsburgh.
Last year’s Heisman Trophy victor and the No. 2 overall pick in this year’s draft, Mariota left and did not return after being sacked to end consecutive second-quarter drives.
The Broncos were unable to take advantage of the turnover as quarterback Brock Osweiler threw four straight incomplete passes, giving the ball back to the Steelers on downs with 1:40 remaining.
However, Manning has recovered to the point his 539 career touchdown passes and 71,871 yards worth of experience have to be tempting for the Broncos as they embark on their final two monumental games.
Brown had nine catches for 110 yards and scored both of his touchdowns in the second half.
Osweiler was injured when he scrambled for 7 yards in the second quarter of Denver’s 34-27 loss at Pittsburgh, where the Broncos (10-4) blew a 17-point lead. Zach Mettenberger completed 20 of 28 passes for 242 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions after replacing Mariota. In the second half, though, he was 7 of 26 for 82 yards.
Instead, they preached patience and told their players to talk to each other, something that was an obvious problem as the Steelers spent most of the first half looking at each other as Denver wide receivers Emmanuel Sanders and Demaryius Thomas ran across wide swathes of turf.
SEAHAWKS 30, BROWNS 13 (at Seattle) – Russell Wilson continued his record pace, throwing three touchdown passes, two to Doug Baldwin, and Seattle clinched a playoff spot for the fourth straight season. You name it, we did it. This is an execution league and when you’re doing it, it’s a lot of fun. In the midst of all that, a rattled Osweiler couldn’t generate any real offense in the second half, and the Steelers and Roethlisberger slowly caught up, and soon lapped him. The play cut the Broncos’ lead to seven and also broke a very long streak for Harris.
Cameron Heyward, defensive end of Pittsburgh, said they settled down in the second half. The Broncos have been shut out in the second half of each of their last three games.
Brown has been the receiver to dish out those tail kickings to many a cornerback this season. Osweiler still appears to be the Broncos’ quarterback of the future, but with Peyton Manning slowly working his way back from a foot injury, the present is far more murky; it’s hard to imagine that the Broncos would choose to bench a healthy Hall of Fame quarterback with the playoffs in view, but the question is whether Manning can ever be his old self again.
Before Brown’s touchdown, Harris hadn’t given up a touchdown to an opponent since Week 12 of 2013.
The first step is for the Broncos to collect themselves and make the needed adjustments this week and during the game next Monday Night at home against the Bengals with playoff positioning on the line.
“We came into this week the No. 2 offense, but we knew it was going to be a big test. We said all week it was a five-star matchup: No. 1 defense and No. 2 offense, and I think we delivered”. In this case, the Broncos would play in the Wildcard round and travel to Arrowhead Stadium to play a Chiefs team that has dominated the Broncos twice already this season despite an improbable victory earlier in the season in Kansas City.

The Steelers have a 75 percent chance to make the playoffs according to the New York Times playoff simulator. The game on Sunday re-established its weak pass defense.
