Broncos match Dolphins’ offer sheet to C.J. Anderson

General Manager John Elway announced on Twitter that the Broncos matched the $18 million, four-year offer from the Miami Dolphins for Anderson, who was a restricted free agent and was tendered at the low level, preserving refusal rights for the Broncos to match any offer sheet. The Broncos opened business Tuesday with $11.523 million worth of salary-cap space after reworking DeMarcus Ware’s contract, so they could afford to match Anderson’s offer sheet.

Johnson is a four-time Pro-Bowler, and he has averaged less than 4 yards per carry just one time in his past eight seasons.

An unrestricted free agent, Johnson led the Cardinals in rushing last season after joining the team in August.

After letting Lamar Miller go in free agency and losing out on C.J. Anderson to the Denver Broncos, Miami is moving on to the next option. “His track record and what he’s done, I think that he’s very capable”. Four years ago, this organization took a chance on an undrafted kid, and I looked at them in their eye and told them, ‘Hey, man, you’re making the best decision.’ They’re still making a great decision.

The move helps solidify a roster in turmoil, as the Broncos continue to wrestle with questions at the quarterback position and with coming to terms on giving Super Bowl 50 MVP Von Miller the contract he deserves.

“That’s the game where it shows when it matters”, Anderson said. “I don’t really care.” he said at his locker.

The big money involved in the Dolphins’ bold proposal made this a win-win situation for Anderson. He knows just how strong and hardheaded I am to be successful. “And that’s the type of player you want”. I did it when I was with Gase also. “I was more anxious about my success and career then I was money-wise”.

Dolphins running back Jay Ajayi will be heading into his second year but there is unfortunately a relatively small sample size of 2015 film on him.

Elway wants Denver’s rebuilding offense to catch up to its league-leading defense and expects Anderson to play a lead role.

“I think we’re excited about having Mark”, Elway said.

Anderson was asked on ESPN’s NFL Live what his expectations are now that he is going back to Denver.

Anderson’s ready to shoulder those added responsibilities.
