Broncos name Trevor Siemian starter for Saturday

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – Trevor Siemian will start at quarterback in the Denver Broncos’ third preseason game Saturday night against the Los Angeles Rams. Osweiler started seven games when Manning was out with a foot injury, but Manning came on in the season finale to rally the Broncos past San Diego and secure the No. 1 seed in the AFC.

The team is just five days away from the much-heralded third preseason game, the one in which starters typically get the most work and a chance to realistically game plan for their opponents.

On the Denver side, Trevor Siemian and Mark Sanchez are fighting for the position.

The Broncos won the Super Bowl previous year with below average quarterback play.

According to Kubiak, this battle is keeping to script.

“I’m an athlete. I can play anywhere on the line”, Davis said.

“We’ve got three quarterbacks, two of which weren’t on this team a year ago and one that had one regular-season snap”, Kubiak explained.

“I think we improved in the offense as a whole”.

“I’m going to play the guy that I think is best for our team. They’ve all put themselves in position to go out there and compete”. He didn’t throw a TD or a pick Saturday on a 10-for-17 night that saw him toss for 120 yards.

Though Osweiler threw an interception Saturday evening, he has not been bad, going 16-26 for 151 yards with one touchdown and one turnover in two games this month.

“I’ll be on the field sooner or later”, Davis said. He went into the game and made two mistakes, losing two fumbles. Siemian went 10 for 14 for 75 yards and led a scoring drive on his opening series.

“As a coach, you look at it and you say, ‘That wasn’t a very good call versus quarters, ‘” he said.

The Denver Broncos search for the starting quarterback continues to be one of the intense actions in the National Football League as three players are vying for the job.

It is understandable that Kubiak has not come up with a sound decision regarding his starting quarterback.

“You’re throwing a slant into quarters [coverage]”.

But this is John Elway we’re talking, 2x Super Bowl winning QB, face of the franchise in more ways than one and a person who will do whatever it takes to win, again. I’m not saying I’m never drinking again, but for now just mostly being healthy.

And while each quarterback was responsible for at least one giveaway apiece in the 31-24 loss to San Francisco, Kubiak did see positives from all of them. I know I’m in a tough spot right there, and Coach wants to see what I do.

Denver is hoping their stellar defense can keep them in games while the offense continues to be a work in progress. “The stuff he’s doing right now is really giving him a chance to make this football team”, Kelly said.

The 28-year-old got cups of coffee the past two seasons with the Oakland Raiders and Denver Broncos, after failing to keep his job as the starter in Minnnesota, which made him the No. 12 overall pick in the 2011 draft.

And no matter what happens, Kubiak said he does not plan to play all three quarterbacks in the preseason finale at Arizona on September 1.
