Broncos put their trust in QB Siemian

The Panthers have spent the last two practices preparing for the Denver Broncos in the regular season opener, and now they know the quarterback they’ll be facing.

If a second-year quarterback with no regular-season passes to his name can be considered a “safe” choice, Trevor Siemian is it.

Trevor Siemian has officially won the Broncos’ quarterback battle. Rookie quarterback Paxton Lynch is second on the depth chart and in line to eventually take over as the starter. “We’re in the process of putting this football team together right now”.

“I’m impressed – I think he’s very calm, ” Kubiak said of Siemian after the game. “So, those shoes are way too big to fill”.

Siemian learned Kubiak’s West Coast offense past year when he had a birds-eye view of the Broncos’ QB conundrum that required the coach to gather his team every Monday from mid-November on to inform the players whether Manning or Brock Osweiler would start. His only National Football League snap outside the preseason was a kneel-down.

“I just tried to stay within myself”, he said, “be myself day-in and day-out, be the best teammate that I can be and learn as much I could”. “I remember when he first came in, I said, ‘You remind me of Aaron Rodgers, ‘ in the way that he goes about his business”.

Siemian, a 2015 seventh-round pick, will replace the retired Peyton Manning and Brock Osweiler, who left the Broncos during free agency to join the Houston Texans in the offseason.

“Last year I got a chance to learn a lot and I was starting to get comfortable in the system, but I hadn’t taken a lot of reps”, Siemian said.

The job was Sanchez’s to lose and in true Mark Sanchez fashion, lose it he did (at least there was no butt fumble involved this time). The Broncos acquired Sanchez from the Philadelphia Eagles for a conditional 2017 draft pick, and they’d have to pay him $4.5 million if they don’t cut him.

One would think Sanchez would get picked up by someone should he get cut, just not at the price he would command via trade.
