Brooklyn explosion kills 1, injures 3
One person has died and four others were injured in a fire Saturday afternoon in Brooklyn that might have been caused by a gas explosion, the Fire Department said.

A relatively quiet street in Brooklyn’s Borough Park was interrupted by a violent blast on Saturday, a gas explosion that killed one and injured at least three people. In addition to the fatality, three people were injured.
He said: ‘Earlier today, an explosion took place at a building in the Borough Park neighborhood in Brooklyn.
Brad Lander, who represents Borough Park on the New York City Council, said relatives had identified the missing woman as Francisca Figueroa, 48.
Firefighters responded within three minutes and were able to evacuate residents of surrounding buildings, according to Mayor Bill de Blasio.

A message left at a possible phone number for the building’s owner wasn’t immediately returned. “National Grid…is working under the direction of the Fire Department of New York to shut off the gas and make the situation safe”, spokeswoman Karen Young said in an email.
