Broward’s Eric Hosmer named MVP in first All-Star appearance

Manfred says the suit is about “the irrationality of the application of traditional workplace overtime rules to minor league baseball players”.

In any one installment of such a unusual institution, it can be hard to find a binding narrative, but over the last few years of All-Star games, a pattern has emerged.

“It’s the All-Star Game”, said Cubs third baseman and Bonanza High alumnus Kris Bryant. Hosmer’s Kansas Royals teammate Salvador Perez hit a two-run homer two batters later.

We are in the 14th year of that gimmick – Fox’s original slogan, remember, was “This Time It Counts” – and for the 11th time the American League will “earn” the opportunity to play World Series games 6 and 7 at home, after Tuesday night’s 4-2 victory.

Sanchez got the task to face the National League hitters in the fourth, and would run into trouble.

Twins infielder Eduardo Nunez didn’t get an at-bat in Tuesday’s game but he did help turn the game-ending double play while playing second base. Then the AL proceeded to grab a lead in the early innings then dare the NL to rally against its contingent of power relievers.

It was all about the Kansas City Royals and the American League at Tuesday’s 2016 MLB All-Star Game at Petco Park in San Diego. They were joined by team mascots and the World Series Trophy, while legendary Padres Dave Winfield and Trevor Hoffman were the Grand Marshals of the parade. The Cleveland Indians’ Corey Kluber got the win, Cueto got the loss, Britton delivered the save, and the AL won its fourth straight All-Star Game.

No problem initially for the NL, because that allowed the “visitors” to strike quickly.

Betances threw three pitches that topped 100 miles per hour, including his second-hardest pitch of the year, a fastball that ramped up to 101.3, according to Statcast. It was the second time a Chicago vs. The NL has only scored eight runs during those four games.

“It meant a lot to me, ” Bryant said. Every fan base wants to see at least one of its own, and this is still a game for the fans, right?

The damage was done in the bottom of the second inning.

Within the last half-century, the audience for the All-Star Game peaked at 36.3 million when ABC aired it back in 1976. The Royals’ Eric Hosmer, whose two hits included a homer, was named the game’s MVP.

Boston designated hitter David Ortiz, who has said he will retire, drew a one-out walk and received an ovation from the crowd and hugs from the AL team bench when he came out for pinch-runner Edwin Encarnacion of the Toronto Blue Jays. Even having the first two games at home is a huge step toward success.

The first pitch, indeed was an 80-mph batting practice pitch, but Ortiz took it for a ball.

Just like that, it was Royals 3, NL All-Stars 1.

And that was it for Ortiz, one of the best sluggers and biggest personalities of his generation. “It is fun when you can play this game and feel like a kid again”. Hosmer lashed an RBI single off Jose Fernandez in the following inning, stretching the advantage to 4-1. After retiring the hometown player Wil Myers, he walked Buster Posey, and yielded a single to Anthony Rizzo, advancing Posey to third. “And to share that experience and have the games we did tonight was really special”.
