Browns beaten up by injuries, then beaten by Dolphins in OT

Cleveland didn’t blink much Sunday here at Hard Rock Stadium, but it wasn’t enough against Miami in 30-24 overtime loss. With less than a minute in the fourth quarter, tied at 24.

That’s the kind of disgusting tragedy that can affect the psyche of an entire city and even though the Dolphins unveiled the newly renovated and named Hard Rock Stadium, what should have been a party was tempered by the soul-crushing news that Fernandez was indeed one of three people killed in the crash off Miami Beach. It all set up for the Browns to win the game, but (likely former Browns kicker) Parkey had other ideas, missing his third field goal of the game as time expired.

ABOUT THE BROWNS (0-2): For all of the gloom and doom in Cleveland’s offense, Isaiah Crowell has run roughshod over opponents with touchdowns in three straight games and five of six after his career-long 85-yard score last week versus the Ravens. That gave the Dolphins a 17-13 lead.

“Very disrespectful”, receiver Jarvis Landry said.

He caught eight passes for 144 yards.

On first-and-10 from the Browns’ 11-yard line, Ajayi took a handoff from quarterback Ryan Tannehill around left end and sprinted untouched into the end zone for the game-ending touchdown with 8:26 to play in overtime.

“It felt good to come back home but this was a tough loss today”, said Cleveland running back Duke Johnson who played his high school and college ball in South Florida and finished the day with 65 yards on nine carries. Terrelle Pryor had a huge day for the Browns, contributing in every facet of the offense and almost spurring the team to victory. Parker earlier had missed from 41- and 42-yards out. The Browns had a golden chance to win after Corey Lemonier stripped the ball from Tannehill and recovered the fumble himself with 20 seconds left.

“It was dumb”, defensive end Jason Jones said. It went to overtime because Browns kicker Cody Parkey missed a 46-yarder on the final play of regulation. Still, the Browns led at halftime 13-10 on the strength of a Briean Boddy-Calhoun interception return for a touchdown. It was his third miss of the day. But Cleveland backpedaled to a fourth-and-24 before punting, giving the Dolphins a short field that led to the winning score. Starting with an “interesting” decision to kickoff by Hue Jackson after winning the toss, nothing really went right for the Browns.

Kessler was injured on that drive as he took a hit from Dolphins defensive end Cameron Wake. “We’re three games in – too far in to have the kind of mistakes we’re having”. His tenure as a Brown may be over before the plane lands in Cleveland. Now the Dolphins have a short week to turn their attention towards a Thursday match-up with the Cincinnati Bengals. Cleveland will also be on the road in Week 4 as they will play the Washington Redskins.
