Browns have zeroed in on choice with No. 1 draft pick

But with the No. 1 pick, No. 12 and six in the top 65, the Browns are in a commanding position to fill needs. Jackson saw things his own way with Griffin and Kessler a year ago, and as Sashi Brown says of the 2017 decision, “We lean tremendously on Hue”.

Garoppolo started the first two games of the 2016 season while Brady was serving his Deflategate suspension. He struggled with consistency on the field and was surrounded by controversy off. “And he also may, in fact, be the Browns’ top quarterback”. One other note from Cabot’s report – she was told “don’t be surprised” if the 49ers select Trubisky at No. 2, something that the Browns are nearly certainly factoring into their decision. Past year in 2016 they selected Cody Kessler in the third round. Garrett is the consensus guy in a lot of circles and is assumed to be the player the Browns will take if they decide to keep the No. 1 pick and not trade back. “It would take me a lot of time to do it because every day there is a new rumor”. With the need for a quarterback glaring, the Browns find themselves once again trying to find their franchise signal caller. However, is the team? The Browns were one of the worst defenses in the National Football League previous year because they had difficulty pressuring the quarterback, ranking 29th in sacks per pass play.

Leave it to Cleveland to panic and take a quarterback who may not be ready for prime time.

Months, even years of preparation, can be altered by the unexpected behavior of the team one spot ahead in the pecking order.

It’s not only listening to the words that come out of the mouths of the coaches, players, or executives.but also diagnosing what they mean in a larger sense.

Whether the Browns consider Trubisky, Deshaun Watson, or Patrick Mahomes worthy of reversing roles with the Jets from the Mark Sanchez trade remains to be seen. The Jacksonville Jaguars would get the 14th pick in the draft, possibly a second round or third round pick and a first-round pick in 2018. If the Browns leapfrog the competition to get Trubisky, they may send other teams interested in Trubisky into a scramble. There is no premier quarterback in this draft, so the Browns can get the next best thing – a premier pass rusher. Combined with Corey Coleman the two could really help the offensive line, especially after losing Terrell Pryor. With the first overall pick and the 12th selection, they can go a number of different ways.

For now, let’s examine some of the Browns options if they choose to stay at 33. “I think that sometimes those concerns are a little bit overstated”, Berry said.

However, with Brown walking away from the possibility of trading for a quarterback, the chances of Garoppolo heading to Cleveland now decreased.
