Browns: Johnny Manziel named starting quarterback

Johnny Manziel will return as the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns after a two-game benching for his off-the-field behavior, according to reports Monday.

“We haven’t had those discussions”, Pettine said Sunday when asked if ownership gave him an assurance that he would finish the season. We’ve got to be playing well around our quarterback. It is hard to fix something when you haven’t pinpointed it exactly.

“It depends on how those games go”, Pettine said.

Listen, I am big on character.

So, is the building unified?

Manziel said not made himself available to the media since his demotion. Some fans watching the game in Blue Ash at Slatts Pub say they just don’t know what to do anymore. “When things don’t go well, everybody has a tendency to kind of bunker in and get into that mode”. I think we are better than we showed. “It’s nothing we hadn’t done before”, said Hill of the summit with Jackson. That is what losing does to you. “People have their own opinions when not going well”. I did break one headset this year in St. Louis, but I guess the TV cameras didn’t catch it. I’m more likely to do that behind the scenes when it calls for it. Hopefully the mishandling of Manziel by the Browns franchise is over for good.

The Browns coach discussed the apprehension among the front office Monday, one day after Cleveland dropped to 2-10 with a blowout loss to the rival Bengals.

With a strong defense and a balanced, quick-strike offense, the Bengals are 10-2 for just the second time in team history. Davis played most of the game with Brian Hartline and Darius Jennings as his only healthy receivers. But you know what? They signed Terrell Pryor as a QB/WR last week and labeled him a “security blanket” but declined to make him active for yesterday’s game. “I just have to continue to do what I’m doing”. There are a lot that want to be here next year.

Six plays later, the Bengals settled for Mike Nugent’s 44-yard field goal and a 17-0 lead with 6:24 remaining in the first half. An attempt to find a diamond in the rough in the form of Davis proved futile, as the player Brett Favre oddly compared to Tom Brady looked nothing more than OK.

“It begins with a detailed evaluation of everything, of everything we do”, Pettine said of trying to turn things around. “For now, what is he?”

Cleveland is also missing Pro Bowl cornerback Joe Haden, who missed his fourth straight game with a concussion.

“I don’t see our guys turning down contact or pulling up short for whatever reason because he’s potentially a free agent”.

I bring all that up because the Browns are looking like the worst, or almost worst team in the league.

Tight end Gary Barnidge, wide receiver Travis Benjamin, right tackle Mitchell Schwartz, safety Tashaun Gipson and linebacker Craig Robertson will be free agents.

The move that Carroll made four years ago by starting then rookie Russell Wilson over free agent signee Matt Flynn is often referenced as the right way to do business and helped the team get to a pair of Super Bowls.
