Browns’ Josh Gordon Has Been Reinstated

The Cleveland Browns got the great news on Monday that wide receiver Josh Gordon was available for training camp and the preseason, but fans will have to wait a bit longer to see him on the practice field. The former Pro Bowler will be suspended for the first four games of the regular season, but will be allowed to participate in team activities.

The Cleveland Browns placed recently reinstated wide receiver Josh Gordon on the active/non-football injury list on Tuesday. According to the reinstatement announcement, “Once arrangements have been confirmed regarding Gordon’s clinical resources in Cleveland”, Gordon will be able to practice and play in preseason games.

Gordon returned to the Browns on Monday, November 17, 2014, after serving a league-mandated 10-game suspension for a failed drug test.

Tight end Tyler Eifert and linebacker Rey Maualuga are among the Cincinnati Bengals players sidelined by injuries as the team opens training camp this week.

Gordon played for Baylor after going to school at Lamar High School in Houston.

Now we just have to hope Gordon doesn’t fail another test or break another rule.

Gordon’s history with the National Football League isn’t pretty, as he was suspended for two games in 2013, 10 games in 2014, and the entire season in 2015.

Gordon will miss the first 4 games of the season for Browns when they meet Eagles, Ravens, Dolphins and Redskins.

For now, one of the NFL’s genuinely talented individuals in Gordon is back, and a seemingly reborn RGIII and an upgraded roster will make the once-sorry and perennially sad-sack Browns a team to watch in 2016.

It’s a fresh start for Gordon, who emerged as one of the league’s rising stars in 2013 before several missteps led to his banishment.

Goodell did not arrive as the decision to reinstate Gordon casually. The team has to decide if a player who has been suspended for 27 of the last 32 games fits the culture it is trying to build. That year he earned his first Pro-Bowl selection and was named a First Team All-Pro.
