Browns lose game, another QB in 31-17 defeat at Bengals

That’s a good thing.

The Browns continue to fight, try to make outcomes respectable and a few youngsters are starting to show promise. “You have to find a way to stay out there, and that’s tough because he’s trying his tail off”. The Browns also lost yet another quarterback – the theme of their season.

For the Bengals, quarterback Jeff Driskel, wide receiver Cody Core, cornerbacks KeiVarae Russell, Chykie Brown and Chris Lewis-Harris, offensive lineman Christian Westerman and defensive tackle DeShawn Williams will be inactive against the Browns.

“If it’s not the play of the year, it’s close”, Dalton said. No play symbolized their revival more than the one at the end of the first half. Knowing your team is careening toward an 0-7 start in your first season, and there’s little you can do about it, doesn’t help.

That left the offense in the hands of undrafted rookie Kevin Hogan, the Browns’ sixth quarterback of the season. Six different quarterbacks now have taken snaps this season for Cleveland through seven games. I want to be here if Hue’s going to be here for a while, because I know this is a building process – and it’s not really.

Not only that, Jackson’s team lacks the adequate talent, and this is putting it nicely, that is required to win in the National Football League consistently.

“Cincinnati can thank the scheduling gods for this gift of a Week 7 opponent”. It’s not from a lack of effort. Crowell finished with 63 yards on 12 carries with a one yard touchdown in the second quarter. The heave was miraculously hauled in by A.J. Green for the score, making it 21-10 at the half. If not, Hogan says he’s ready.

“Running is something I’ve always felt confident in”, Hogan said.

The Cincinnati Bengals won with great play to end the second quarter and continued the momentum into the second half against the Cleveland Browns.

After Kessler was knocked out of the game, Hogan continued to break off big runs by getting the Bengal to bite on fake handoffs.

Who had the worst performance in Week 7? CB Jamar Taylor had guessed wrong on the double move. That translates into a passer rating of 137.3. LaFell grabbed four passes for 83 yards. Offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton took over the play-calling duties for the final 5:02 in the game after Jackson called a timeout and ripped his team. In his past three games against them, he’s been flawless – 54 of 74 for 762 yards with seven TDs and no interceptions.

CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora wonders about the Browns’ QB situation.

Then again, you do actually have to go out and beat the Browns. It really isn’t out of the question. If Kessler can’t answer the bell next week, will Hogan get the start? We’ve got to get some things squared away, but I take responsibility for it all.

In the Ringer’s “Winners and Losers” column, the Browns are described as “winners”.

PAYBACK: Karlos Dansby, cut by the Cleveland Browns in March, led the Bengals with 11 tackles on the day, nine of them solo. They are very much in the race with a win on Sunday.
