Browns quarterback Robert Griffin III to miss at least 8 games

His veteran presence has been an asset to our team throughout our process of preparing for the season.

“That’s why we kept him here”.

Tougher tests will await the 23-year-old but as starts go, this one was more than decent. But there is room to wonder if this is already the beginning of the end of his Cleveland tenure. That deal included $750,000 in per-game active bonuses each year and up to $3.5 million each season in incentives based on playing time ($500,000 for 75 per cent or $1.5 million for 90 per cent), passing yards ($250,000 for 3,250 yards, $500,000 for 3,500 or $1 million for 4,000) and passer rating ($250,000 for 88.0, $500,000 for 90.0 or $1 million for 93.0 or higher, minimum 244 attempts).

Things are not going well right now in Cleveland.

With McCown at QB, the Browns should be able to get their receivers involved more.

The seventh-year pro from MI switched back to defensive end after three seasons at outside linebacker and was effective in the Eagles’ 29-10 win Sunday against the Cleveland Browns. Now that season could be over practically before it began.

To their credit, the Browns did truly appear to believe in Griffin, as his teammates voted him as one of their captains for the season.

Of course, this assumes McCown stays healthy. “I have to go back and watch the tape” Wentz stated when asked if he needs to make any adjustments for next week.

The decision to sign Griffin is turning out to be as Browns-esque as it gets. I’m optimistic about the Hue Jackson era, and believe the Browns will someday find their mythical franchise leader at quarterback. But the Griffin who was on the field during the preseason and Sunday in Philadelphia merely was putting more of the same on display. So he won’t have those huge games like Shady used to, but he’ll nearly always keep the chains moving. Too often, Griffin checked down to running backs against the Eagles. But it wasn’t half bad. He tried to get out of bounds but was met on the sideline by rookie cornerback Jalen Mills, who drilled him in the shoulder. However, they are thanking their lucky stars because they didn’t trade quarterback Josh McCown. “And that’s what he did and I just threw it out there and gave him a chance, and he made a heck of a play”. He called his injury a sprained shoulder following the game, but acknowledged he was in quite a bit of discomfort.

“From the casual observer, it’s been pretty bad luck”, said McCown, who suffered a concussion last season on the opening drive. And I want him to be just as successful as me, if not more’. “But I think he’s seen enough situations and been in enough in this league to understand that things happen in due time and that you’ve got to work through this and be prepared when the next opportunity comes”.

“No, we haven’t [second-guessed]”, Jackson told Cleveland.com.

Additionally, McCown is better at hitting the intermediary throws that Griffin struggles with.

The No. 2 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft led the Philadelphia Eagles to an impressive victory over the Cleveland Browns in his NFL debut in Week 1 and, within hours, the former North Dakota State standout was generating a shoutout from POTUS.

That certainly took a lot of pressure off rookie quarterback Carson Wentz, who threw for 278 yards and two touchdowns in his National Football League debut. “This was Griffin’s shot to prove the critics wrong and show us all that he has something left in the tank; that he can be the player we all thought he could”.
