Browns Release Statement on Johnny Manziel’s Future

Browns Executive Vice President Sashi Brown made it clear Tuesday that the Browns are done with Johnny Manziel, who’s under investigation by Texas police and the National Football League for possibly assaulting his ex-girlfriend. “As I’ve said many times, I would like for the Cleveland Browns players to conduct themselves in a manner that represents the organization well”.

“Johnny’s continual involvement in incidents that run counter to those expectations undermines the hard work of his team-mates and the reputation of our organisation”. Brown said Manziel’s status will “be addressed when permitted by league rules”. We will have no further comment at this time.

Sources told cleveland.com shortly after Hue Jackson was hired that he would not want to move forward with Manziel as his starting quarterback.

Police didn’t say if the ex-girlfriend was injured.

On Saturday, police investigated an alleged assault that involved Manziel in Fort Worth, Texas.

According to a statement released by Fort Worth police, they used their Air One Unit helicopter to locate Manziel after his unidentified ex-girlfriend said she was concerned about his well-being. Fort Worth and Dallas police are working together to determine whether any criminal offenses occurred, and NFL spokesman Greg Aiello told ESPN that the league was aware and was “looking into it”. Police later determined that Manziel was safe and not in danger.

Manziel spent more than 70 days in a Pennsylvania rehabilitation facility specializing in alcohol and drug addiction treatment last winter. Ex-Brown Brandon Weeden was picked in Round 1 in 2012.

Late last week, Browns owner Jimmy Haslam said the relationship between the Browns and Manziel was “repairable”, but that decision ultimately lies with Brown, who made his stance quite clear amidst his aforementioned words. Maybe the Browns hold out hope Jerry Jones and the Cowboys will give them something (a fifth-round pick?) for the young quarterback. He did not remain with the club in Cleveland and multiple accounts from eyewitnesses put Manziel in Las Vegas.

Johnny Manziel reportedly won’t be with Cleveland next season after a rough couple of years
