Browns release troubled quarterback Johnny Manziel

The team was waiting to see if they could receive something in return for Manziel in a trade; when that didn’t work out they pulled the plug.

In two seasons in Cleveland, Manziel played in 14 games and started eight, winning two of them.

Johnny Manziel has been a free agent for a few days after the Cleveland Browns released him following two troubled years quarterbacking their organization. She accused Manziel of grabbing her by the hair and hitting her ear, causing her to lose her hearing. In those three games, Manziel completed 18 of his 35 pass attempts for 175 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions and ran for a score in the fourth quarter of a loss at Buffalo. In the time since Manziel was drafted, the team replaced another head coach, fired general manager Ray Farmer and installed a front-office hierarchy bent on eliminating the mistakes of the past.

On the field, Manziel didn’t fare much better.

On October 12, dashcam video showed a police officer pulling up to Manziel and Crowley, who were parked on the side of the road, telling them of “numerous calls” about their speeding BMW.

After being benched on multiple occasions for off-the-field issues, Manziel reportedly suffered a concussion in a 17-13 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium on December 27, 2015. Manziel will have to prove to NFL teams that he is serious about football and will put his team and the sport above everything else, but time will tell if the once-electrifying college quarterback is serious about his NFL future. The team at first stood by him, but soon decided they’d had enough. He also appeared in a photo that depicted him talking into wads of cash – the “Money Phone”.

Back in Cleveland, fans quickly scooped up tickets and his No. 2 jersey.

Adding Manziel to your roster comes with a risk. After friends left the two alone, Crowley claimed Manziel was “aggressive towards her”. It’s not clear at this point if any teams would have interest in Manziel, or even if the league will let him play again.
