Browns see Wentz’s ‘slow release’ as potential advantage
Let’s talk about what Eagle fans should expect from Carson Wentz during week 1.

Wentz injured his ribs in his National Football League debut and missed the final three preseason games. “I wasn’t always 100% with coach Pederson’s plan but I thought it was a great plan”.
Pederson said that the coaching staff has worked on Wentz’s feet and upper-body mechanics over the spring and summer, but haven’t spent much time on his release. Of course, we can help him as coaches in that regard. “It’s something now that we’re prepared to do and looking forward to Cleveland”.
“He’s such a special guy”. And we have an opportunity with this (trade) to get back into the first round in the 2017 draft, get a pick in 2018 that we thought was important, and utilize that cash and cap space to improve the team in other areas that we didn’t have prior to this week. They recovered some of the draft picks they lost by dealing Bradford to the desperate Vikings, who lost Teddy Bridgewater for at least the 2016 season following a severe knee injury.
Wentz said two his keys to succeed in his new situation will be to emerge as a team leader and bounce back from any mistakes, qualities that are obvious to spout at a news conference but hard to display when things turn sour on the field. “This is what, as an organization, we believe in”. “It’s something that we believe in, I believe in”.
“Would the ideal situation be later than sooner?” We can’t go out there and tell Carson to win this game.
Pederson said. “Sure. But right now we are where we are”.
Pederson doesn’t think Wentz will have any extra motivation playing the team that didn’t want him. “Sam understands it’s a business, I understand it’s a business, but guys are excited about Carson”. “Right when I heard that Sam got traded, I was informed that Carson was going to be the starter”.
There’s no immediate plan to give Smith, the teammate of Wentz at North Dakota State, the roster spot that belonged to Rowe.
He completed 12 of 24 passes for 84 yards with one interception and zero touchdowns against the Buccaneers that game.
Now he’ll be under center against the team that traded down in the draft instead of staying put and selecting him. Yet, in the last 15 years, only one Super Bowl-winning quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, served an apprenticeship of even three years before becoming a starter, and the only reason Rodgers was not thrust into the lineup was the future Hall of Famer (Favre) ahead of him.
The Browns and Eagles kick things off Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on CBS. Pederson led the Browns to a 19-11 win over New England, snapping a seven-game losing streak and giving Cleveland its only win in the final 13 games. Even going into the first preseason game I felt like I was very confident, felt like I’d developed at a fast pace.
Whether the Eagles make the playoffs this season, this was the right move to make. Invariably, the team cuts ties with the player a few years later, no better off than they were before they drafted him.
