Browns to start Davis, not Manziel at QB this weekend
Coach Mike Pettine would not discuss whether Austin Davis or Johnny Manziel will start Sunday against Cincinnati.

The switch to Davis then was largely expected based on the depth chart, but the Browns wouldn’t talk at first about who the starter would be when they found out McCown wasn’t coming back.
Davis saw his first action with the Browns on Monday after starter Josh McCown went down with a broken collarbone in the fourth quarter.
Speaking of, Davis will be the 24th starting Quarterback for the Browns since 1999, the most in the National Football League in that span. It’s too bad for Cleveland, as McCown was having one of the best seasons a Browns passer has had since returning to Cleveland. “He was prepared, played well and put us in position to win”, Pettine said in a statement released by the team.
This story will be updated. “These are two players that we both want to see play is the bottom line”.
Manziel isn’t just any 22-year-old.
“I can not say enough positive things about Josh McCown, what he’s done for this football team and what he means to this football team”, Pettine said Tuesday. And he did it after hearing some Browns fans chant “John-ny, John-ny”, hoping Pettine would free Manziel from his doghouse.
The Browns fell to 2-9 on the season as Brent Urban blocked Cleveland kicker Travis Coons’ attempt at a game-winning field goal and Will Hill returned the ball 64-yards for a touchdown to give the Ravens a 33-27 victory.
“I just wanted to drive in low and stick my hand up”, he said.
Pettine said from a physical standpoint, “he’s got some mobility when the pocket’s clean for him and he can step up”.
“Those guys in the offensive huddle, I don’t see any issues”. Guys respect him, see how passionate he is.
Davis played for The Golden Eagles from 2008-2011.
Austin Davis will make his first start of 2015, the Browns announced Wednesday.

The coach might not be able to trust Manziel off the field, but he needs to trust him on it. Originally drafted by Oakland in the third round of the 2011 supplemental draft, Pryor has appeared in 15 games with 10 starts at quarterback.
