Browns zeroing in on No. 1 pick in 2017 NFL Draft
A year later in 2016, the Bears actually succeeded in trading into the top 10 at No. 9 overall, to leapfrog the New York Giants for the promising Leonard Floyd.

We don’t know what round – or who it will be – but it’s happening.
Melifonwu looks like a prototypical strong safety – he finished ninth in run-stop percentage a year ago, per Pro Football Focus, and had 118 tackles – but his length and coordination could make him much more. Whether that happens during the 2017 NFL Draft or next spring really doesn’t matter.
Brugler is a fantastic NFL Draft analyst. Cleveland is concerned that the Jets or the Bills (at pick 10) would take Trubisky before Cleveland is on the clock at 12.
There is a real possibility quarterback Brock Osweiler could be the one starting behind center for the Cleveland Browns next season. “I think the one thing for ourselves, we’d like to move back and acquire more picks in this draft if possible”. It could look quarterback with that selection. There’s also talk this team may look at linebacker and of course the secondary could still use another strong hitter. But Trubisky is the wrong choice.
“It’s got to be a two-way street, ” Titans general manager Jon Robinson said at the NFL Combine. The front office and coaches, coming off a 1-15 season, need to nail this draft. Personally, I would just rather see Watson or an elite defensive playmaker.
Third, it is more likely than not that the Browns select a QB with the #12 pick, or trading from that pick.
I can stomach the idea of Trubisky, but Brugler’s second-round selection of Josh Jones for the Bears would be a major mistake. Or do you want multiple starters and core guys at multiple positions of need in one fell swoop? He struggled with consistency on the field and was surrounded by controversy off. “Who is this player?'” he said. Jones has some nice upside but he makes a lot of mistakes in coverage. But if what he said is true, it could help the 49ers leverage a better package in a trade back from the second selection.
All of those teams make sense as candidates to try and move down.
The Browns have been searching for a quarterback since the turn of the new millennium and have the chance to give a player a shot this year. That would be a major mistake. They have somehow managed to lose for well over a decade and mismanage their drafts at an improbable rate.
Ramczyk is a likely first round pick and even with a hip injury it would be a major surprise if he fell out of the first two rounds. First, let me say that.

Connecticut’s Obi Melifonwu, Washington’s Budda Baker, Iowa’s Desmond King and N.C. State’s Josh Jones could all be gone by the end of the second round.
