The drive prompted smiles inside the Mets dugout and chants of “Bruce, Bruce” from the many Met fans in the crowd.

Cespedes, who has been dealing with pain in his leg since at least July 7, was spotted at a golf course with MLB Network analyst and former major leaguer Kevin Millar on Wednesday.

As a 13-year marriage hits a new, uncomfortable low with Rodriguez being reduced to a spectator by Joe Girardi and team management, it’s time to ask a question: Does the franchise owe anything to one of the greatest players to ever suit up in the Bronx? “I think just from conversations we had, I saw myself in the bullpen at this point in the season, but thank God I’ve had that opportunity and continue to be a starter and helping out”. Shortly after the contest, the team announced Cespedes would be placed on the disabled list.

“And reality is, he was OK to play”, Collins said.

Rays 3, Royals 2: Brad Miller hit a three-run homer in the eighth inning to help Tampa Bay beat Kansas City for a series split. “He was just being Bart”.

The Yankees’ only run came in the seventh inning after Gary Sanchez doubled and was knocked in by Aaron Hicks.

Addison Reed pitched a ideal eighth and Jeurys Familia worked around a pair of one-out singles for his 38th save in 40 chances, retiring Rob Refsnyder on a game-ending double-play grounder over the third-base bag. That allowed the inning to extend to Bruce’s spot in the order when the inning should have been over.

“I was surprised not to see him”, Colon said through a translator, “because we all know he’s always hit well against me”.

The 41-year-old Rodriguez wasn’t in the lineup Thursday night at Yankee Stadium for the wrapup of the Subway Series. “I say that’s my dad”.

New York’s columnists have been waiting for this, ever since Cespedes played golf the day the Mets won the NLCS past year. Collins interrupted two questions and emphatically answered another by saying that golf didn’t cause the injury. And Cespedes hit a couple of rockets early in the game Tuesday night, so there was little evidence to blame the links for what ailed him later. The Mets just didn’t have enough offense last season to get it done, but now with Bruce and Cespedes the Mets are going to be a scary team to play. Coincidentally, Thursday marked the ninth anniversary of his 500th home run and the sixth anniversary of No. 600.
