On Friday, The Boss announced that he could no longer hold a concert in Greensboro on Sunday, noting, “As we also know, North Carolina has just passed HB2, which the media are referring to as the “bathroom” law”. A nasty little bit of legislation that prevents any city or county within North Carolina from passing laws that could protect LGBT rights.
Follow Lane on Twitter and Instagram. Obviously, Springsteen could have played the show and delivered an impassioned speech, denouncing the bigotry of the North Carolina GOP establishment before 20,000 people.
Last week, Bruce Springsteen wrote his fans in North Carolina a heartfelt apology about why he was cancelling an upcoming concert in Greensboro – the passage of the Public Facilities Privacy and Security Act. The move – and a similar law that was passed in its Southern cousin state of MS – is outrageous.
The law hasn’t only cost North Carolinians access to pornography but also more mainstream entertainment.
“I think that porn has the power to do what Bruce Springsteen can’t”. 319, 907 have clicked into the “Gay” category on the site, while 50,612 have typed “gay” into the sites search engine.
“I feel that this is a time for me and the band to show solidarity for those freedom fighters”, Springsteen said.
“Discrimination is bad for North Carolina, bad for America and bad for business”, said Chad Griffin, president of the HRC, in its press release.
Can porn succeed in helping to overturn the discriminatory law? “I can not in good conscience perform in a state where certain people are being denied their civil rights due to their sexual orientation”, he wrote. Disney previously threatened to boycott Georgia in response to HB 757, a bill that would make it illegal for “religious officials” to officiate a wedding that violated their religious beliefs.
‘We respect all sexualities and embrace them’.

Top executives at Starbucks, Facebook, Apple, Citibank and dozens of other companies have signed a public letter asking Governor Pat McCrory to repeal the law.
