The Detroit Red Wings lost in overtime Wednesday at Joe Louis Arena, falling 3-2 to the Bruins when Frank Vatrano scored with 1:28 left in the extra period. Meanwhile, the young pair are already a considerable part of the Wings offense, with 14 of the team’s 51 goals – 27.5 percent – entering Friday’s game against the Oilers.

“Just put my stick down on the ice and it went in”, Vatrano said. “So my job is play hard, play with energy, forecheck hard and maybe win some pucks for us”.
Vatrano tipped in Miller’s shot for the victor for Vatrano’s third goal.
If the early returns are any indication it turns out that I was wrong, because Datsyuk’s established wizardry apparently knows no bounds.
Hes got to continue to grow his game and that wont necessarily be seen from the fans all the time because he is on the puck a lot, hes got great energy, he skates great, hes produced offensively, Blashill said.
One of the things that impressed me when I first got him in Grand Rapids was that he has a real inner confidence to him but hes a down to earth person, Blashill said. You make maybe one mistake or maybe a guy just takes a nice shot. It’s a mixed bag, certainly, with numerous team’s inconsistencies being reflected player-to-player, game-to-game.
Vatrano opened the scoring at 7:11 of the first period when his shot from the left point beat Mrazek. It was Datsyuk’s 300th career goal.
Larkins streak equals the longest one by a Wings teenager since Steve Yzerman in 1984-85. The Red Wings are on a run of their own, going 3-0-1 in the last four contests, and rookie Dylan Larkin has led the way with a goal in each contest.
Whether or not you like the Detroit Red Wings Stadium Series jersey, you’ve got to admit one thing: it’s quite different than anything we’ve ever seen the club wear before.
Center Pavel Datsyuk and left winger Tomas Tatar scored for Detroit and goalie Petr Mrazek made 19 saves. We’ve got to find a way to have that killer instinct when we do get in those situations.

Said Blashill: “I think his game has grown every game that he’s played”.
Despite the positive outcome, Bruins coach Claude Julien wasn’t too thrilled. “It’s like having a power play with two units that can be real risky”.
“Played with him for a few games and he really told me to hold on to the puck and don’t throw it away, and we can wear them down in the cycle”.

At the end of the assembly, coach Jim announced that the Red Wings had donated new hockey equipment to the school, so the kids could practice their shots, and be sure to take out the teachers next time. Fortunately, as it turns out, judging an entire season based on the first ten games is a bit premature.
