For UCLA, Jack is the third veteran starter on defense to go down with a serious injury before the team hits its fourth game of the season. Jack is certainly ready to play in the National Football League and might have been a first-round pick this year if not for the NFL’s rule requiring players to be out of high school at least three years before turning pro. The kinds of knee injuries that frequently get immediate surgery include open fractures, dislocations with vascular injuries, and tibial plateau fractures, though there are other possibilities and reasons that surgery may have been performed immediately and this is just my partially irresponsible supposition.
As Jack tweeted Wednesday, it’s now a “next-man-up philosophy” for the UCLA linebackers, and they’re in good shape so far with Bradley’s system of rotation. Bradley wouldn’t name a specific player or situation, but he did say they were going to leave Jayon Brown in the position he has been playing already. Fullback Nate Iese could get some short yardage carries.
The Bruins do get junior cornerback Ishmael Adams back after he was reinstated Tuesday, ending his suspension after three games following his arrest on suspicion of robbery.

Harris started Florida’s opener this season and has played in two games, completing 19 of 27 passes for 269 yards and two touchdowns. Hmmm…
If they can improve in a few more areas, such as ball security and pass coverage, these Bruins are still in great shape to make a run in the Pac-12 South. So we’re going to move forward that way.
