The Grant County sheriff’s office reported a trailer full of hay had burned on the road next to the interstate.

The wildfire has swelled to about 700 to 800 acres (283 to 324 hectares) since breaking out Sunday, and firefighters battled overnight to contain the flames, Foreman said. It was unclear how long it would be closed.

The highway reopened at 10 a.m. after being closed nearly 22 hours.

A 17-mile stretch of highway was closed Monday after blowing dust and smoke from a brush fire made it unsafe for drivers. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The residents of 50 homes have been told to prepare to leave if the fire comes their way. No homes or out buildings have been lost at this time.

Mobilization specialists from the Fire Protection Bureau have ordered four strike teams, two helicopters, and a Type 3 Incident Management Team to supplement the resources already fighting the fire. “This is the third large fire in Grant County in the past three weeks”. The level 3 evacuations issued earlier Monday have been cancelled. The tractor was not damaged and nobody was injured, according to the sheriff’s office. The fire is wind driven.
