Brush fire closes stretch of Pacific Coast Highway
ABC-7 reports the fire started around 10:30 p.m. Friday, and burned about 100 acres in the 3000 block of West Pacific Coast Highway by Solimar Beach, just north of Ventura.

The US officials issued a mandatory evacuation order for Solimar Beach, as well as a voluntary evacuation notice for the neighboring Faria Beach community.
The out-of-control brush fire forced the evacuation of dozens of homes northwest of Los Angeles and closed a stretch of Pacific Coast Highway after starting outside the city of Ventura late Friday.
A section of Highway 101, a key north-south route, remained closed on Saturday afternoon, forcing holiday travelers to use alternative routes.
“This is not a contained fire”, Plott said.
A Red Cross shelter has been opened at the Carpinteria Veteran’s Memorial Building, located at 941 Walnut Avenue in Carpinteria, authorities said. No injuries or damages were reported. Fire officials also said air operations would be used Saturday morning.
The blaze broke out Christmas night and was officially reported by Ventura County Fire Department Capt. Mike Lindbery around 12:15 a.m. Saturday. That means firefighters will face a wildfire that will change directions, the Ventura County Fire Department said on its Facebook page.
Images from the area showed flames being whipped into the sky by high winds as the fire burned surrounding hills and up against the 101. “We’re getting a bunch of embers in Solimar east”. Evacuations were ordered in Solimar Beach and area campgrounds.
The California Highway Patrol has reopened US 101 northbound, and is attempting to reopen the highway’s southbound route as of Saturday afternoon.

“The fire is being pushed by a strong northwest wind”, it said.
