On Friday, at least 12 people were arrested during anti-terrorist operations across Belgium on suspicion of plotting attacks.
No arms or explosives were found, and the prosecutor’s office said no further information would be made public about the people detained or the items seized in the searches. “There were no explosives”.
“The situation is now under control”. The security services remain extremely vigilant, ” Michel said in a statement.
The authorities reported after the crisis center meeting has reported that the terror level in the country is still three, which is the second highest in history.
Streets around the City 2 shopping centre have been closed off and a bomb disposal unit is at the scene.
Police cars block the area as police officers gather at the scene of a bomb alert at the City2 shopping mall.
Police said the man claimed to have been abducted and dropped off at the downtown City 2 complex.
Belgium has been living under a high threat level which says an attack is possible and likely since the November attacks in Paris. Belgian lawmakers are joining forces with their French counterparts in examining the Islamic State cell that carried out deadly attacks in both Brussels and Paris.
Brussels has been on high alert following suicide bombing attacks in the Belgian capital on 22 March in which more than 20 people were killed.
However, later RTL prosecutors said sappers found no explosives in the building and the belt turned out to be a fake.
The incident began at about 1000 IST this morning after a report of a man acting suspiciously near the City 2 shopping centre triggered a bomb alert, broadcaster RTL reported.
