Bryant clashes with teammate in camp session

Bryant swung at Patmon one more time while the two were separated, but he didn’t appear to make contact.

Bryant hadn’t dropped back to return punts the entire first week of camp, the Morning News noted, but suddenly – with the Worldwide Leader on hand and Cowboys opponents undoubtedly tuned in – Bryant was back fielding punts.

Total Access pass through the training camps of Tom Brady and Dez Bryant – what could possibly go wrong?

Dez and COO Stephen Jones engaged in a goofing-around conversation at the end of the day during which Jones animatedly clutch his chest as if his heart was skipping beats. I just remember seeing him laying on the ground.

Typically when you make that sort of long-term and expensive investment in a player, you want to do whatever you can to maximize your value; and nearly every NFL scout will agree that you will get the most for your money if Bryant is on the field playing wide receiver. “Now that’s not new”, Jones said. He isn’t going through the motions when he says it is all about the people around him. “That’s been happening at our training camp for years and years and years”. And on just the second day of practice with pads, he was at it again.

For Cowboys fans anxious there might be tension already, there’s no need to fret. “Sure enough, here comes some after-the-whistle action”. Patmon was undrafted. He is fighting his way and he’s fighting for respect. With both players having their helmet off, Patmon got in a quick punch, before Bryant had a chance to react. He has increased his touchdown total each of the last five seasons for the Dallas Cowboys. “Brothers fight. That happens sometimes”. “So we go out at, we squashed, and it’s over”.

Bryant came to the sideline and tried to stretch the leg before limping off the field.

Bryant said Garrett told him “he wasn’t going to get in between it and all of that”. I am not going to list the instances in which he has let his emotions get the best of him. I have a lot more expected of me this year. “We had really good conversations leading up to it about what we wanted to expose and not expose”.

And Bryant, a first-round draft pick in 2010, also acknowledged that Patmon is an unsung player battling for attention. Finally – openness. You have your city, but at the same time you have that middle-of-nowhere, just kick back and enjoy nature feel. And he’s got mine then. “It is a throwback to the years when you saw Michael Irvin out here, Deion [Sanders] and those guys”.

Both players will have an extra day to cool off. Dallas takes a break Monday before returning to practice Tuesday.
