BSF Jawans killed,10 others injured in militant attack in Bijbehara

Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has strongly condemned the militant attack on a BSF vehicle in Bijbehara area of district Anantnag in which three security forces personnel lost their lives. Head Constable Girish Kumar Shukla, Constable Mahinder Ram and Havaldar Dinesh, succumbed to their injuries, after the attack.

The sudden militant attack created panic in the area while people ran for cover. 20 pm at Goriwan when the BSF convoy was on way to Srinagar. BSF Director General K K Sharma is rushing to the spot to take stock of the situation.

Hizbul Mujahideen has claimed responsibility for the attack. Eyewitnesses said that militants opened fire on a convoy bus that was jam packed.

This is the major attack on security forces after the highway attack on BSF in Pampore during the month of February. Its operational spokesperson Burhanuddin told a local news agency that “several Indian troopers were killed in the attack carried out by a special squad of the outfit”.

The injured are being treated while one of them, who was critically injured, was airlifted to 92 Base hospital in Srinagar.

“Sad to hear about the attack on BSF personnel in South Kashmir”.

“The only goal of such gory acts seems to be to keep the turmoil in the State on and the latest attack is again aimed at vitiating the atmosphere”, she said.
